We felt it was time for a shake-up of the rental market.

Room shuffler founder, Ethan Kim, started out as an overseas student looking for accommodation in London. Finding his options limited to providing a UK guarantor or 6 month’s rent upfront – neither of which seeming particularly fair – he decided there had to be a better way.

Years later he launched room shuffler to be that better way. A short-term room rental platform that rejects the traditional restrictive and expensive estate agency route and instead offers landlords and tenants the opportunity to form their own deals, to make their own arrangements, tailored to each other’s needs and situation.

The UK rental market has always had a difficult relationship with short-term lets and overseas students because the system is just not set up to accommodate them. As a result, UK residents looking for a short-term let are penalised by lack of choice and extremely high rents, and overseas students find themselves either requiring a UK guarantor (which the majority will not have) or being required to pay 6 months rent in advance. 

 

At room shuffler we look to simplify the process, stripping back these restrictions and allowing landlords and tenants to make their own bespoke arrangements. Landlords can then get face to face with their tenants to see for themselves who they trust with their property, and tenants can negotiate the rent, term and conditions that best suit them.
